Here we demonstrate arginine methylation of STAT 1 by the protein arginine methyl transferase PRMT 1 as a novel requirement for IFNalpha / beta induced transcription . ^^^

Finally , purified catalytically active protein arginine methyltransferases ( PRMT 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , and 6 ) did not methylate STAT proteins , and cotransfection with PRMT 1 did not affect STAT 1 controlled reporter gene activity . ^^^
