Expression patterns of interleukin 6 ( IL 6 ) , IL 6 receptor ( IL 6R ) , and gp 130 genes in 39 patients with acute myeloid leukemia ( AML ) , in 23 patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia ( ALL ) , and in 7 patients with acute mixed lineage leukemia ( AMLL ) were studied by quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction . ^^^ Significant correlation was observed between the expression of IL 6R and gp 130 in AML . ^^^ When tested for in vitro response to IL 6 , the leukemic cells from 3 of 7 AML , none of 3 ALL , and both of 2 AMLL patients significantly responded to IL 6 , showing the correlation between the expression levels of IL 6R and gp 130 and the responsiveness of leukemic cells to IL 6 . ^^^ These results showed that quantitation of IL 6R and gp 130 expression by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction is useful for the rapid prediction of the responsiveness of leukemic cells to IL 6 , especially in cases of administration of IL 6 . . ^^^

Circulating concentrations of soluble interleukin 6 receptors gp 80 and gp 130 in chronic renal failure and effects of renal replacement therapy . ^^^ No data are available on the concentrations of the circulating interleukin 6 ( IL 6 ) receptors gp 80 and gp 130 during chronic renal insufficiency . ^^^ METHODS : We compared the serum concentrations of the IL 6 receptors gp 80 and gp 130 to those of the TNF receptors p 55 and p 75 in end stage chronic renal failure , continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis , and hemodialysis ( HD ) . ^^^ RESULTS : In healthy controls the concentrations of gp 80 , gp 130 , p 55 , and p 75 in serum were 82 . 1 + / 24 . 3 , 87 . 9 + / 20 . 2 , 1 . 1 + / 0 . 2 , and 1 . 7 + / 0 . 3 ng / ml , respectively . ^^^ CONCLUSIONS : The data show that the concentrations of the IL 6 receptors ( gp 80 and gp 130 ) are elevated in chronic renal insufficiency . ^^^
