The expression of apoptosis related genes BCL 2 , BAX , BCL2L1 , BCL2A1 , MCL 1 , DAPK 1 and MYC was studied by quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction on total RNA samples from patients with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia ( ALL , n = 16 ) , acute myeloid leukaemia ( AML , n = 27 ) , chronic myeloid leukaemia ( CML , n = 12 ) , mantle cell lymphoma ( MCL , n = 19 ) and chronic lymphoid leukaemia ( CLL , n = 32 ) . ^^^ BCL 2 , BAX , BCL2A1 , MCL 1 , DAPK 1 and MYC were overexpressed in all patient groups . ^^^ BCL 2 , BCL2L1 , BCL2A1 and MCL 1 were overexpressed and DAPK 1 was underexpressed in CLL samples with a 11q23 deletion . ^^^ |

Our main findings were : 1 ) IL 10 enhances lipid accumulation in oxLDL stimulated THP 1 macrophages , at least partly by counteracting oxLDL induced apoptosis ; 2 ) This antiapoptotic effect of IL 10 involves increased expression of the antiapoptotic genes Bfl 1 and Mcl 1 , accompanied by protective effects on mitochondria function ; 3 ) By silencing Bfl 1 and Mcl 1 genes using siRNAs , we were able to abolish this IL 10 mediated effect on lipid accumulation ; 4 ) IL 10 also induced lipid accumulation in oxLDL stimulated macrophages from patients with ACS , but not in macrophages from healthy controls ; 5 ) In ACS patients , this enhancing effect of IL 10 on lipid accumulation was accompanied by enhanced Mcl 1 expression . ^^^ |
