| We previously identified Csn 1 and Csn 2 as signalosome subunits in S . pombe . csn 1 and csn 2 null mutants are DNA damage sensitive and exhibit slow DNA replication . ^^^ Herein , we characterize null mutations of csn 4 and csn 5 and demonstrate that both genes are required for removal of Nedd 8 from the S . pombe cullin Pcu 1 and that their protein products associate with Csn 1 and Csn 2 . ^^^ However , neither csn 4 nor csn 5 null mutants share the csn 1 and csn 2 mutant phenotypes . ^^^ |

| In the present paper , we describe three overlapping bacterial artificial chromosome ( BAC ) clones which harbor both the rabbit CSN 1 and CSN 2 genes . ^^^ DNA from one of the CSN / BAC clones was used as a probe for in situ hybridization to show that the CSN 1 and CSN 2 gene cluster is located on chromosome 15 band q 23 and not on chromosome 12 as had been previously reported . ^^^ In the presence of lactogenic hormones , the rabbit CSN 1 gene was clearly expressed from all three CSN / BAC DNAs , whereas the rabbit CSN 2 gene , which at the most possesses a 1 kb upstream region in one of the CSN / BAC DNAs , was not expressed at detectable levels on Northern blots . ^^^ The transfected HC 11 cells now express both rabbit CSN 1 and mouse CSN 2 genes . ^^^ |
