Moesin , and not the murine functional homologue ( Crry / p65 ) of human membrane cofactor protein ( CD 46 ) , is involved in the entry of measles virus ( strain Edmonston ) into susceptible murine cell lines . ^^^

Recently , two cellular membrane proteins , the membrane cofactor protein CD 46 and the membrane organizing external spike protein , moesin , have been identified to be functionally associated with measles virus ( MV ) infectivity of cells . ^^^

Two cellular proteins , membrane cofactor protein ( MCP ) and moesin , were reported recently to be functionally associated with the initiation of a measles virus infection . ^^^
Interacting proteins: P15529 and P26038 Pubmed SVM Score :0.0
Recently , two cell surface molecules , CD 46 and moesin , have been found to be functionally associated with measles virus ( MV ) infectivity of cells . ^^^

To investigate the localization of CD 46 and moesin , which are receptors for measles virus , Caco 2 cells were incubated with monoclonal antibodies against CD 46 or moesin followed by 125I labeled anti mouse Ig . ^^^ The results indicate that CD 46 is expressed preferentially on the apical membranes while moesin appears to be present at similar levels on both surfaces . ^^^

The identification of CD 46 as a virus receptor and of the involvement of moesin sheds some light on the molecular events occurring during virus entry into the cell . ^^^

Recent findings , especially the analysis of CD 46 and moesin as receptor acting molecules for MV , correlate well with the tropism of MV and open new fields for the investigation of MV associated immunosuppression and central nervous system ( CNS ) complications . . ^^^

Recombinant soluble forms of the ectodomains of measles virus haemagglutinin ( sH ) and of its receptor CD 46 ( sCD 46 ) were obtained as a purified disulphide bonded sH homodimer with an apparent molecular mass of 160 kDa and a purified sCD 46 monomer with an apparent molecular mass of 60 kDa , without detectable contamination with moesin . ^^^

Antibody cross reactivity with CD 46 and lack of cell surface expression suggest that moesin might not mediate measles virus binding . ^^^ We suggest that the weak cross reactivity of antimoesin antibodies with CD 46 explains the inhibitory effect of these antibodies on MV entry and that moesin is not directly involved in MV binding . . ^^^

Furthermore , when these cells were transfected to express human CD 46 , a 100 fold increase in syncytium formation was observed with these cells and was independent of the expression of moesin . ^^^ Moesin negative ES cells expressing or not expressing human CD 46 formed separate pieces of fragmented syncytia which were torn apart during spreading , whereas ES cells expressing moesin exhibited typical syncytia . ^^^ These findings indicate that murine moesin is neither a receptor nor a CD 46 coreceptor for MV entry into mouse ES cells . ^^^
