| Synaptotagmin 1 is a high affinity receptor for clathrin AP 2 : implications for membrane recycling . ^^^ Using a combination of competition and direct binding assays , we demonstrate that synaptotagmin 1 , an intrinsic membrane protein of synaptic vesicles , has all of the properties of the AP 2 receptor and that AP 2 binds to the second C 2 domain in the molecule . ^^^ |

| We have revealed that several proteins , including alpha adaptins which are specific subunits of clathrin assembly protein , AP 2 , were eluted from mouse brain by affinity elution chromatography from the C 2 domains of Syt 2 immobilized Sepharose using 50 microM of InsP 6 . ^^^ The interaction between Syt 2 and AP 2 was more markedly inhibited by IHPS than by the same concentration of InsP 3 . ^^^ |

| The AP 2 binding site of synaptotagmin 1 is not an internalization signal but a regulator of endocytosis . ^^^ By using CD4 / synaptotagmin 1 chimeras , we found that the internalization signal of synaptotagmin 1 lies at the extreme COOH terminus of the protein and can function in the absence of the C2B domain that contains the AP 2 binding site . ^^^ |
