| We investigated associations of high density lipoprotein ( HDL ) cholesterol , apolipoprotein A 1 , and triglyceride levels with hemoglobin A 1 ( HbA 1 ) and insulin levels in nondiabetic subjects ( 137 women and 111 men ) . ^^^ In women , HDL cholesterol , apolipoprotein A 1 , and log triglyceride values were significantly correlated with those of HbA 1 and log fasting insulin . ^^^ Although there were weaker associations in men , apolipoprotein A 1 and HbA 1 values were inversely related . ^^^ |

| Similar reductions in body mass index and plasma triglycerides and increases in apolipoprotein A 1 were seen with both treatments , but HbA 1 was reduced more during treatment with enalapril than with nifedipine ( 0 . 49 vs . 0 . 20 % , P = 0 . 035 ) and serum apolipoprotein B ( apoB ) also declined more with enalapril than with nifedipine ( 8 . 2 vs . 2 . 3 mg / dl , P = 0 . 009 ) . ^^^ |
