| BMP 2 induced apoptosis is mediated by activation of the TAK 1 p38 kinase pathway that is negatively regulated by Smad 6 . ^^^ Interestingly , this ectopic expression of Smad 6 blocks BMP 2 induced TAK 1 activation and p 38 phosphorylation . ^^^ Moreover , Smad 6 can directly bind to TAK 1 . ^^^ These findings suggest that Smad 6 is likely to function as a negative regulator of the TAK 1 pathway in the BMP 2 signaling , in addition to the previously reported Smad pathway . . ^^^ |
