| Foxp 4 : a novel member of the Foxp subfamily of winged helix genes co expressed with Foxp 1 and Foxp 2 in pulmonary and gut tissues . ^^^ The full length mouse Foxp 4 cDNA encodes a 685 amino acid protein that is similar to Foxp 1 and Foxp 2 . ^^^ To compare the protein expression patterns of Foxp 4 to Foxp 1 and Foxp 2 , specific polyclonal antisera to each of these proteins was used in immunohistochemical analysis of mouse embryonic tissues . ^^^ All three proteins are expressed in lung epithelium with Foxp 1 and Foxp 4 expressed in both proximal and distal airway epithelium while Foxp 2 is expressed primarily in distal epithelium . ^^^ |

| Foxp 1 , Foxp 2 , and Foxp 4 are large multidomain transcriptional regulators belonging to the family of winged helix DNA binding proteins known as the Fox family . ^^^ Foxp 1 and Foxp 2 have been shown to act as transcriptional repressors , while regulatory activity of the recently identified Foxp 4 has not been determined . ^^^ Given the importance of this Fox gene subfamily in neural and lung development , we sought to elucidate the mechanisms by which Foxp 1 , Foxp 2 , and Foxp 4 repress gene transcription . ^^^ We show that like Foxp 1 and Foxp 2 , Foxp 4 represses transcription . ^^^ Analysis of the N terminal repression domain in Foxp 1 , Foxp 2 , and Foxp 4 shows that this region contains two separate and distinct repression subdomains that are highly homologous termed subdomain 1 and subdomain 2 . ^^^ |
